To The Princess
On the streets we met back when I knew nothing other than surviving. You gave me money for food. My messiah, I am alive today because of you. That night, I took a knife and made a blood oath, to become your knight and protect you forever. To live for you and die for you. As years passed, through blood, sweat and tears, I became your knight, your sword, your shield. You recognized me from your visit back then, two children living opposite lives. The more time I spent with you, the more I saw you not as an angel but a woman. With every word you muttered to me, I fell more for you. Hiding my feelings, I lived as your knight with the knowledge I would never be your prince. Slowly you caught on, I could never hide myself with you. Time passed, and the fateful day of your engagement with the neighboring kingdom’s prince arrived. The whole kingdom celebrated; a festival was held for three days. I cried that day, with my soul shattering and falling apart. Looking at the scar of my blood oath, I recited my oath repeatedly. I fell asleep with a heavy heart. Waking up with more conviction in my heart. Her wedding day arrived; it was over as quickly as it began. As smooth as the grass fields in the spring. On the final night of you being in the kingdom, I knocked on the door of your chambers. As soon as you opened, I knelt and recited the same oath I have told myself for my whole life. I vowed to the gods that I will always be your knight. Not able to accompany you to the prince’s land. As the parting ceremony commenced, you made your way to the carriage. You looked back at me, I smiled, fingers trembled. My eyes being filled with tears. To hide them and show my devotion I bowed to you and to the prince. Fate has its ways to bring people together. If fate is kind, let us meet again. This time as lovers instead.
Your loyal knight.
